24 May 2004 - SPAM Filtering Now AvailableAfter a series of successful trials (Phase I and Phase II) our SPAM filter is now ready for general use. Our trials have shown a quite significant reduction in the level of SPAM arriving in our customers e-mail. If your e-mail is being hosted by Evanscorp we can enable, at no cost, our SPAM filtering technology for your e-mail. All you need to do is contact us with your e-mail address and we will enable the filter. It's quick, painless, and will save you time in filtering through the increasing level of SPAM you are probably receiving in your e-mail. How it worksOur SPAM filtering is performed by SpamAssassin. SpamAssassin works by tagging different parts of each e-mail and scoring each message based upon the recognised tags. The higher the score, the more likely the message is SPAM. In our configuration, messages with a score greater than 5.0 are flagged as being SPAM and the subject of the message
is automatically pre-pended with ***** SPAM ***** so that you can easily identify SPAM messages when scanning through the your list of messages.
If a message scores greater than 8.0, it is automaticlly deleted from our server without our customers needing to see it at all. What to do about messages incorrectly tagged as SPAMIf you find that some messages that are not SPAM are being tagged as SPAM, please forward them to ham@evanscorp.net.au. We will modify the filtering rules used by SpamAssassin to prevent future messages
of a similar nature being tagged.
