This weekend's BarCamp was titled the "Recession Edition" and was attended by over 200 people. Due to the informal nature of topic selection, attendees were encouraged to participate and were able to focus their discussions on emerging issues and innovations including social networking, community development, communication and Web3.0. Conference "unorganiser" Ajay Ranipeta believes that this is important because "Everyone has something they can contribute".
BarCamp is an informal conference covering all aspects of the IT industry. BarCamps are held regularly around the world and whilst all BarCamps are organised at a local level, they follow the same rules: fostering an environment of open discussion, without a pre-planned agenda.
A panel of local industry practitioners including our own Managing Director, Phil Evans, made themselves available in an open floor question and answer session to discuss some of the benefits and challenges of working in ICT as well as the impact that the Global Financial Crisis has had on local ICT businesses.
Participants came from diverse areas of the IT industry, such as web development, e-business entrepreneurs and a few freelance programmers including our own Managing Director, Phil Evans. Phil presented two topics during the conference. The first was "Managing an Australian Startup" which provided some suggestions on the management of startup organisations through the management methodology called 'Requisite Organisation' and how this methodology has benefited his own organisation. The second presentation was "In-browser client-side write-through transactional object caches with multi-phase". This presentation looked at transactional client-side caching in web applications and discussed some initiatives that Evanscorp have adopted to improve application speed and responsiveness as well as the user experience.
Managing Director, Phil Evans said of the event "Evanscorp are always interested to participate in events that encourage the Australian ICT community to get together and communicate with each other. BarCamps are a great opportunity to do that and we were happy to do our bit by sponsoring this event".
About BarCamp
The BarCamp is a community event which focuses on the ICT industry and allows anyone who has the desire to learn to contribute through discussions, demos and interactions. The format is unique in that speakers are not pre-scheduled; rather, all audience members are invited to speak on any subject. At the beginning of each day, participants write their names and topics on the scheduling board; in this way, the day's content is only decided once the audience arrives. This follows the conference philosophy of "No Spectators, only participants".

BarCamp is an unconference that is unorganised and held over one or two days with speakers from all sorts of companies speaking on the things that matter the most to them.
